The Graduate Orientee position is tailored to individuals who havegraduated from an accredited mental health/human services graduate program butwho have not yet sat for their licensing examination to be credentialed as amental health provider in the State of Maine. As such, the purpose of thisposition is to provide teaching and training in the role and functions of apsychiatric clinician such that they may merge into a clinician position oncelicensed within 90-days of their date of hire. As a clinician-in-training, theGraduate Orientee will work under the direction of their assigned ClinicalSupervisor and serve as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. Theywill be responsible for assisting licensed providers in the delivery of care topatients and/or families individually or in groups and across the life span.They will be coached in clinician functions as a therapist, educator, advocate,and liaison to the community and treatment team, clinical associate and carecoordinator (if applicable). Further, the Graduate Orientee will work withlicensed providers in policy and program development, quality assurance and themaintenance of the therapeutic environment in the facility as assigned. The GraduateOrientee will learn to utilize critical thinking skills to co-completepsychosocial assessments, psychiatric diagnoses, mental status exams, suicideand violence risk assessments, case formulations, and the evaluation and implementationof treatment plans under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician. TheGraduate Orientee will have 90-days after hire to successfully pass theirlicensing exam and obtain licensure in the State of Maine. At that time, theGraduate Orientee will merge into Psychiatric Clinician role as available. Ifthe Graduate Orientee does not meet the 90-day requirement, the ClinicalSupervisor will have the ability to keep the employee in this role or terminateemployment.

Regulatory Requirements:

Must have a Master'sDegree in Social Work, Clinical Professional Counseling, or related field. Inpatientexperience preferred.Age based competencyin children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics and disability based competencyfor chemical dependency required. Completes Healthstream Mandatory Education ona yearly basis. Attends all mandatorysafety related education programs, (fire, ergonomics, universal/standardprecautions, etc.). Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self andothers. Carries assigned keys and wears hospital ID badge at all times.Refrains from the abuse of chemicals.


Always Maintains patient confidentiality. Represents the organization in a positive andprofessional manner in the community.Maintains regulatory requirements, including JCAHO, Federal andState. Complies with all organizationalpolicies regarding Northern Light Health Code of Conduct and ethical businesspractices.


Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensationare necessary to respond to patient response and requests. The ability to readand speak English, to communicate and document information. Must possess themanual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility to respond toaggressive patient behavior. The ability to reach and stretch intermittently.Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcareteam members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday.
