||POSITION SUMMARY: Assist pharmacists in medication preparation and distribution while ensuring a high degree of quality and accuracy during daily tasks. Pharmacy Technicians communicate with co-workers and other staff members of EMMC including RNs, CNAs, PharmDs, etc. to ensure correct and timely distribution to patients. Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for refilling Talyst and Pyxis machines, preparing medications for distribution and delivering medications to patient care areas. Pharmacy Technicians are expected to attend employee updates, staff meetings, and be up to date on hospital policies and procedures. Additional duties and responsibilities may include participating in training of employee and quality assurance checks.MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:• High School Diploma or Equivalent, Must be licensed as a Pharmacy Technician through the State of Maine before employment: Department of Professional and Financial Regulation – Board of Pharmacy, Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) licensure from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within first 15 months of hireMINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Successful candidates will have had prior pharmacy experience, healthcare experience or have been enrolled in courses pertaining to the healthcare field (Medical Terminology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical School Prerequisites, etc.)OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED: Computer competency as well as knowledge of the metric system and ability to perform simple math calculations. Candidate must be able to operate telephone equipment, photocopier, fax machine and Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Outlook. A successful candidate is able to prioritize workflow, demonstrate successful use of critical thinking and problem solving skills and exemplify integrity and flexibility in changes of shift or workflow. Additionally, a viable candidate will have knowledge of drug names, basic math and medical terminology. Must exhibit a caring attitude toward patients, co-workers, and other customers.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand for long periods of time and withstand extended periods of walking (up to 10 hours per shift). Successful candidate must also have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform repetitive movements in operating and refilling technology systems.WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to function independently in a pressure-filled environment while working as a member of a team. A successful Pharmacy Technician candidate would demonstrate workflow prioritization and have high standards for quality and accuracy of work performed. A Pharmacy Technician works closely with Pharmacists to ensure precise and timely preparation and distribution of medications to patient care areas. Pharmacy Technicians carry cell phones and are expected to be reachable for their entire shift, using proper phone etiquette to communicate with EMMC staff
