|The Surgical Assistant supports and works with other members of the OR team in preparing rooms for surgery, cleaning rooms between patients, picking instruments and supplies for cases, and locating equipment/instruments as needed. The SA may sterilize instruments when required. As needed, the Surgical Assistant may be required to transport an inpatient to the Operating Room. During this time the SSA will verify patient's identity and check the medical record for required contents. Playing a key role on the surgical team, the SA is accountable for his/her actions and role to assure safe, quality care to those we serve, whether through support or direct action. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.|

|A High School Diploma or GED is required. Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer certification is required. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication and the ability to understand specific instructions. Strong team skills a must. Ability to concentrate on detail and adjust quickly to changes. Willingness to assume responsibility for actions. Self- motivation and initiative needed. Knowledge of safe body mechanics and of physical layout and environment of hospital.|
