Position Summary: Coordinating the patient flow to obtain requested imaging studies in a fast paced environment.

Duties to include, but not limited to:

· The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for coordinating the patient flow to obtain requested imaging studies in a fast paced environment

· Order verification & proper patient identification

· Quality Assurance of the imaging equipment

· Obtain appropriate imaging following approved policies and protocols.

· Proper patient preparation and education which may begin prior to the patient arrival. Technologist may be involved in part of a procedural team.

· Technologist will treat patients of all age groups which include infancy, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics.

· Technologist must be knowledgeable of age specific protocols.

· Must be flexible to cover a variety of shifts with weekend, holiday and non-restricted call duties required as needed.

Minimum Experience/Skills Required:

· Graduate of an accredited Radiography and/or Nuclear Medicine program

· Current Maine License and certified by the ARRT(N) or NMTCB or certified within 6 months of hire.

· Must maintain current certification(s) and licensure through continuing education.

· Must obtain IV certification and operate the pressure injector as needed.

Preferred Experience

· Current NM certification preferred.

· IV certification- excellent skill appreciated

· Radiologic Technologist Certification.

Other skills required:

· Nuclear Medicine staff treats patients of all age groups and must be knowledgeable about developmental needs over the age span.

· Ability to perform a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures at a technical level which entails independent judgment.

· Assumes responsibility for designated areas as required.

· Must become IV and straight stick certified.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to wear lead apron (approx. 10#) for long periods of time as needed. Must be able to stand/walk up to 95% of shift. Must possess dexterity to manipulate large/small objects. Must be able to hear and verbally communicate with patients, family members, physicians, healthcare professionals, department staff, students, etc Must possess the degree of total body strength and flexibility necessary to move equipment and assist patients with personal hygiene and mobility. Must assist those patients with limited mobility or those requiring total care. Must be able to reach items on the floor or stretch to reach items to a height of 5 feet above ground level, and reach across a stretcher to a distance of 25 inches. Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 lbs. to a height 3 feet above ground level. May be asked to perform reception functions which would require sitting 80% of a shift. Must possess dexterity to manipulate large, small thick, or thin objects, use a computer keyboard, push or turn various size knobs on equipment, and use writing implements. Must be able to move within narrow, confined areas. Must possess visual acuity necessary to observe the patient, accurately prepare radiopharmaceuticals and draw patient doses, and discern information from electronic monitors, patient charts, patient ID bands, and other printed documents. Regular attendance is required.

Working Environment: Will work with ionizing radiation. Must work with video display terminals for up to 60% of an assigned shift. Will work with potentially hazardous equipment and materials. May be exposed to patients with communicable diseases, purulent discharges, secretions, and excretions.
