GENERAL DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: Operates Laundry equipment to weigh and wash linens so that patient care needs for linen throughout AR Gould, (including the Aroostook Health Center Nursing Home) and associated Doctor's offices can be met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Goes to patient care areas and picks up soiled linen, pushing and pulling laundry carts.

2. Weighs linen according to procedure.

3. Records laundry weights and other required documentation, must be able to count and to add/subtract.

4. Sorts linen according to type of linen and heaviness of soil.

5. Loads and unloads washers using correct poundage.

6. Loads dryers by drying like linens together using correct poundage.

7. Changes out chemicals for washers.

8. Cleans laundry room and related equipment.

9. Keeps the Wash Room organized.

10. May fill in for Laundry Aid, drying, folding, and distributing clean linens.

11. Must be able to work with laundry and cleaning detergents.

12. Handles clean and soiled linens according to procedure.

13. Must be able to follow established safety methods and procedures as outlined in

organizational and department policies.

14. Maintains professional and dignified behavior.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs other work related duties as assigned.
  2. May be asked to assist in the Housekeeping or Food Service Department.


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: NONE

AVAILABILITYREQUIREMENTS:

Mainly works day shift, may be required to stay over if needed. Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed.

EDUCATION SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.

2. No experience required

3. Requires verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

4. Should be able to follow oral and written instructions

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

1. Standing. 6-8 hours/day.

2. Walking. 1-4 hours/day

3. Lifting. 50lbs with good body mechanics.

4. Twisting. Moderate, 130-480 or greater twists/day.

5. Bending. Moderate: 130-480 bends /day.

6. Squatting/Kneeling. 1-3 hours/day need not be continuous.

7. Endurance. Heavy energy requirements.

8. Wrist Position. Moderate deviation.

9. Pinching. Moderate, 130-480 pinches per day.

10. Hand/Wrist Repetitions. Frequent: 3000-4800/day.

11. Manual Dexterity. Gross Dexterity with frequent fine motor movement.

12. Either Handedness. Up to 35% of job cycle.

13. Both Handedness. 60-100% of job cycle time.

14 Sight. Requires corrected 20/20 near vision and minimal far vision.

15. Hearing. Can hear whispered voice at eight (8) feet (FAA class II).

16. Speech. Frequent clear speaking ability required.

17. Exposure to Infection. Frequent exposure to infections.

ENVIROMENT FACTORS:



1. High/Low Temperature. Work environment 70 – 80+?F.

2. Noise. Frequent exposure to voices, bells, routine noises, and regularly fairly loud

sounds from the laundry washers.

3. WorkingwithOthers. Close association is frequent and compromises a good portion of the job.

4. ConfinedSpacesorCrampedBodyPositions. Work in cramped positions/confined spaces (1hour per week).

5. BodyInjuries. Exposure to circumstances, which may cause minor injuries:

superficial cuts, mild blows, sprains, slips, burns/heat and chemical etc. Moderate likelihood of minor injuries. Slight likelihood of significant traumatic injury that could cause deep cuts, fractures, or permanent disabling injuries.

6. MovingObjects. Slight likelihood of significant injury from moving objects.

7. ToxicConditions. Moderate likelihood of exposure to toxic conditions.

8. RoleAmbiguity. The flow and amount of linen to be processed often sets the pace.

3. Reading/Comprehension. Must be able to read and comprehend greater than Grade 7 level of instructions.
