Job Details Job Summary:
Review and evaluate documentation within the Healthcare Record for assignment of ICD-10-CM and E/M Codes for statistical and billing purposes. Work as a team member for education of staff members and Healthcare providers on documentation issues related to timely and accurate reimbursement. Work closely with Lead Coder and Coding team – keeping communication lines open and being an active attendee at section meetings. Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.

Professional Requirements:
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Maintains regulatory requirements, including JCAHO, Federal and State. Complies with all organizational policies regarding EMHS's Code of Conduct and ethical business practices.

Education/Experience Requirements:
Qualified applicant must have RHIT/CCS, CPC or other relevant coding credential or obtain within one year of hire. Must have formal coding training that qualifies applicant to sit for coding certification within one year of hire. Two to three years coding experience coding in an acute care facility preferred. Applicant must have excellent computer skills for extended data input with keyboard and VDT. . Age based competency in children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics and disability based competency for chemical dependency required within one year of hire. Completes Healthstream Mandatory Education on a yearly basis. Attends all mandatory safety related education programs, (fire, ergonomics, universal/standard precautions, etc.). Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others. Carries assigned keys and wears hospital ID badge at all times. Refrains from the abuse of chemicals.

Language Skills:
Must possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language.

Physical Demands:
Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to respond to patient response and requests. The ability to read and speak English, to communicate and document information. Must possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility; to respond to aggressive patient behavior. The ability to reach and stretch intermittently. Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcare team members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday.
