Provide administrative support to the Cancer Registry Program.Brief Summary of Duties: Provides administrative support to department - manages incoming calls, mail, supply ordering and inventory. Supports volunteer activity within the department. Supports weekly Cancer Case Conference activity. Initiates abstracting function through case finding and data entry of demographic information in the Cancer Registry database. Coordinates and performs monthly (and daily) follow up activity for Cancer Registry cases in accordance with ACOS/COC guidelines and Maine Cancer Registry (MCR) regulations – includes management of obituary based information on a daily basis. Position requires occasional travel from EMMC Brewer to Bangor campus. Primary assignment is at EMMC Brewer Campus.QualificationsTwo year degree in biological/life science and/or health information. Medical Terminology.Three years office experience in a health care setting.Prior experience working with Microsoft Office Professional - Proficiency with Word, Excel and Access database.RHIT preferred or eligible to sit for exam.Other skills required: Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminologyData management Record keeping. Demonstrated ability to process information, synthesize / summarize data. Ability to plan, organize & prioritize multiple responsibilities. Ability to work independently and cooperatively. Ability to safeguard access to sensitive and restricted patient information - electronic /paper medical record. Possess clear, concise, effective verbal & written communication skills. Experience with use of office equipment (copier, fax, and printers).Physical requirements: Sedentary work (85% of day) requiring above average manual dexterity, visual acuity, keyboard data entry, viewing computer monitor. Work involves typing, picking, grasping, occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 25 pounds, pulling, reaching and the ability to move about to accomplish tasks. Hearing acuity sufficient to communicate with physicians, staff, and patients/family in person or via telephone. Requires repetitive motions of wrists, hands and fingers. Working environment: Phone contact with patients / families. Employees subject to inside environmental conditions. Clean, well lit with central heat. Work is in close proximity with others. Some noise level from office machines (printers, typewriters, and telephones). Job consists of sitting, reading patient charts, clinical data & viewing computer terminal 85% of workday.
