POSITION SUMMARY: The unit secretary will be answering the phone and nurse call system in a fast paced, ever-changing environment and will be responsible for effectively communicating messages for follow-through. The unit secretary also navigates and retrieves information from the electronic medical record. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to provide exemplary customer service and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC Caring Behaviors. Able to work closely with all members of the healthcare team. Ability to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment.
The focus of the nursing tech care is caring for OB/GYN patients. Must be adaptable to a fast paced ever-changing environment. A strong team player who is self-motivated. Fast learner. Ability to work closely under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Must project a professional image at all times.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent required. Active and in good standing on the Maine CNA Registry required. Medical terminology preferred but will train, required within 6 months from date of hire. Computer skills required. Competence in basic math and clerical skills. Typing and computer skills required. Legible handwriting. Other skills as outlined in unit based orientation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task.

-Must be adaptable in a fast paced, changing environment, possess exemplary customer service skills, and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC's caring behaviors.

-Must have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and be a demonstrated team player. Must demonstrate reliability and accountability to team members and patients.

A strong history of teamwork and a positive attitude required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Secretarial experience preferred; completion of U.S. course preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sitting, Standing, Walking required. Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. Participation in the development of unit specific strategic goals that assist with the fulfillment of the Eastern Maine Medical Center mission and vision.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Fast paced clinical environment. Participation in unit specific and hospital wide activities that promote self and staff development.
