POSITION SUMMARY: The Interventional Technologist/Radiographer I is part of a procedural team which provides general and advanced care to patients undergoing procedures in interventional cardiology and interventional radiology specialties. Operates single- and dual-plane imaging equipment. Sets up and runs procedural equipment, assists the operating physician in procedural support roles, and performs all other ancillary duties as assigned to meet the patient care needs of the department and as allowed by competence and licensure. Throughout the performance of duties, EMMC Caring Behaviors are demonstrated consistently. Holds other employees accountable to EMMC Caring Behavior expectations. Strives to improve process, quality, and patient experience. The technologist covers a variety of shifts within one specialty modality (cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, interventional radiology/vascular) with weekend, holiday, and non-restricted call duties. May be required to participate in specialty teams (TAVR, Interventional Neurology). Demonstrates a professional commitment to meeting these expectations.

WORK HOURS: The technologist covers a variety of shiftsweekend, holiday, and non-restricted call duties.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associates degree in Radiology Technology. ARRT, Licensed in the State of Maine.


• Ability to relate well with people and to work effectively with technical and medical staff, patients and families.

• Strong communication and organizational skills

• Adaptability to a changing healthcare environment



• Must possess the degree of total body strength and flexibility necessary to move equipment and assist and transport patients. Must be able to assist patients with limited mobility and those requiring total care.

• Must be able to reach items on the floor, and to reach objects overhead to a height of approximately 6 feet above ground level and reach across a stretcher to a distance of 25 inches.

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 lbs to a height of 3 feet above ground level

• Must be able to stand 85% of the time, averaging 3 miles of walking per 8- hour shift.

• Manual dexterity is required to manipulate large/small objects, use computer keyboard and to operate equipment.

• Visual acuity and color vision are required to observe the patient and to discern information from electronic monitors, patient charts, ID bands and other printed documents.

• Ability to endure long periods of standing up to 4 hours or longer, wearing a protective lead apron that weighs 10-14lbs and wearing a surgical mask.


• Exposure to ionizing radiation, potentially hazardous materials, blood and high risk body fluids and patients with communicable diseases.

• Indoor work 100% of the time, in low-light conditions.

• Works with video display terminals for up to 80% of assigned shift.
