Job Details Sign on bonus of $6,000 paid incrementally for experienced* Respiratory Therapist! or $3,000 for Respiratory Therapists less than 2 years experience! Eligible for educational loan repayment.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Manager Respiratory Therapy, the Respiratory Therapist monitors, evaluates and treats pediatric through geriatric cardiopulmonary patients with respiratory and/or cardiac impairment in accordance with physician directives, departmental protocols and in conjunction with nursing staff. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In Addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Requirements:
Currently licensed with the State of Maine as a Respiratory Technician or Respiratory Therapist.
If licensed as a Respiratory Technician, employee will be required to obtain a Respiratory Therapist license with the State of Maine within 12 months of hire to maintain employment.
Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer certification is required.

Other Skills Required:
Must be computer literate. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, as the incumbent deals with acutely ill patients, their families, physicians, and all levels of employees in stressful situations. Must explain highly technical information in an easily understandable manner. With general guidance from the Manager of Respiratory Therapy, the incumbent must be able to act independently and use initiative and judgment while handling multiple priorities and treating patients in varied levels of care and at varied age levels. Must have the judgment and flexibility to deal professionally with differing physician treatment methods. Must have a high degree of analytical and problem solving skills to gather and assess patient data appropriate to condition and age and treat according to physician orders and department protocols. Must have a high degree of accountability as the incumbent's work and judgment directly and immediately affect patient care. The incumbent has access to highly confidential patient information.
