SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTION
Performs basic direct patient care duties, including secretarial/registration duties, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibits a positive professional attitude with supervisors, co-workers, and patients.
Functions as an assistant to the ED Providers and ED Nurses as an integral member of the ED Team.
Responsible for direct patient care within the scope of their (CNA or EMT) license including but not limited to wound care, EKG's, heart rhythm monitoring, vital signs, lab specimen collection and delivery, splint application, transportation of patients, and helping to facilitate patient flow through the ED.
Performs all clerical/unit secretary functions in the ED.
Is supportive of department and hospital goals, philosophies and objectives.
Adheres to Inland Hospital Standards of Behavior, Hand Hygiene Standards, and Policies and Procedures.
Registers all types of patients into the computer systems or using downtime system when appropriate. Maintains 95% accuracy when obtaining information. Ensures all patients are properly identified. Performs admitting function when required.
Is able to troubleshoot common routine problems associated with the dept's office equipment i.e. computer, printer fax and copier etc. Oversees the repair of this equipment to ensure its proper functioning at all times. Communicates issues to manager.
Demonstrates the ability to adapt and adjust to changes in unit activity
(Census fluctuation, change in patient acuity) and/or hospital activity (floating to another unit, rotation off shift).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB
High school graduate or equivalent.
Computer Skills
Maine Registry CNA or Maine Registry EMT (basic or intermediate level)
BLS Certification
Basic Computer skills


PHYSICAL CRITERIA/EFFORT
Daily work involves standing and/or walking over 70% of the time. There is moderate physical effort in positioning, lifting or moving patients of various weights and body shapes, with and without assistance. Vision and hearing acuteness is required at all times. Repeated bending, squatting and stooping is necessary. This incumbent is subject to frustration and fatigue.
