Job Details The Inpatient Support Specialist (ISS) responds to all the clerical needs of the unit. Duties include word processing/typing, managing telephone and other correspondence, filing, ordering/stock supplies, and maintaining the orderly operation of the unit. The work environment is the nurse's station and offers little privacy. The ISS will be exposed to light and noise from computers, telephones, photocopiers and other employees and patients on the unit. This position may be somewhat challenging. The employee will meet on a scheduled basis for individual and/or group clinical supervision to identify current progress towards goals and to ensure continuous competencies of duties outlined below. Annual performance reviews will document professional goals.

Qualifications

The Support Specialist must be a High School graduate or equivalent with at least one year of clerical experience. Medical Terminology preferred but will train. Will be required to complete this course within 6 months from date of hire. Cognitive requirements include the ability to work under pressure and maintain composure and pleasant manner. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills necessary. Special requirements include demonstrated word processing/typing ability, experience with telephone systems, and excellent organizational skills. One to two years in hospital/medical setting preferred. Completion of Unit Coordinator Course desirable. Customer service training also preferred.
