Job Details Job Summary:

The Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) is an individual who has completed the Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services curriculum for CIPSS and receives and maintains that certification. If the applicant does not have current certification, must be willing to actively work towards certification with completion of the certification program within one year of employment. The CIPSS is an individual who is receiving or has received services and supports related to the diagnosis of a mental illness and is a family member of someone with mental illness, is in recovery from that illness, and who is willing to self-identify. The CIPSS will work with people of all ages who have mental health and/or substance abuse disorders and with their family members. The CIPSS will coordinate and provide access to Peer Support Services, Peer advocacy groups, and other Peer-Run or Peer-Centered Services, maintains updated information on area Peer services, and shall assist the member with identifying and developing natural supports.

The CIPSS will provide and maintain a supportive, helpful, empathetic, and engaging environment for individuals involved in the Acadia Behavioral Health Home Program. The CIPSS will be a member of an interdisciplinary team working alongside Behavioral Health Coordinators and Nurse Care Managers. The CIPSS directly reports to the Behavioral Health Home Program Manager.

The CIPSS welcomes, supports, educates, and advocates for individuals who are new to treatment at The Acadia Hospital. The CIPSS is an individual who has direct experience with mental health and/or drug addiction recovery who has achieved an adequate level of stability to allow them to function in this role. They support those wanting to begin the recovery process in many ways including but not limited to greeting individuals entering treatment, orienting them to the facility and helping them understand the major elements of their treatment such as provider roles, treatment plans and how to most effectively utilize community resources. The CIPSS may assist clients in learning how to use the bus, introducing them to community resources such as social clubs, food cupboard, local 12-step and other support group meetings. An effective CIPSS is a good listener and has well developed communication skills and an attitude towards others in treatment that reflects empathy and acceptance. They have a working understanding of healthy boundaries and privacy/confidentiality rights and practices. Perform any duties/or responsibilities assigned by Administrator or Supervisor for which qualified.

Job Responsibilities:

· Understands, and adheres to clinical policies and completes yearly updates in MOAB, ICare, and CPR training.

· Demonstrates the ability to engage others in supportive conversation and has excellent customer service skills.

· Introduces self to people entering treatment and seeks opportunities to contribute to Acadia's welcoming culture.

· Maintains visibility in the program and with clients in the program.

· Assists internal and external community providers in understanding Acadia's Behavioral Health Home Program and assists in generating new referrals for this service.

· Has a working knowledge of hospital treatment programs and locations.

· Be committed to the mission, vision and values of Acadia Hospital.

· Has a working knowledge of social service agencies in Bangor and surrounding areas, including but not limited to Bangor Health & Human Services; PCHC; Homeless Shelters, etc.).

· Arrives on time for scheduled activities and work day.

· Communicates personal needs to supervisor for time off or schedule changes with reasonable advanced notice.

· Wears appropriate attire and grooming.

· Collaborates with other staff to achieve desired treatment outcomes.

· Collaborates with families and other providers to achieve desired treatment outcomes.

· Ability to take direction from others; exhibit appropriate therapeutic affect and behavior; ask questions for clarification; requests feedback regarding performance with clients and peers.

· Attends scheduled staff and supervisory meetings.

· Guarantees the confidentiality of all information accessed regarding clients care.

· Maintains a professional manner when making professional contacts and inquiries.

· Ensures that all work assigned is completed in an accurate, professional and timely manner.

· Maintains BHH census at targeted level.

· Utilizes supervision appropriately and proactively, including risk-management issues.

· Collaborates with members of multi-disciplinary team effectively. Ability to work flexibly with the entire team's caseload as indicated.

· Documents all necessary clinical notes within a 24 hour period.

· If applicable, Maintains a clean driving record, notifies supervisor immediately of any problems with driver status and auto insurance coverage (Must carry 100/300).

· Documents within the medical record.

· Collaborates with all BHH team members and collateral supports.

· Presents cases in a concise, accurate manner- both verbally and in writing.

· Effectively identifies client crisis situations and intervenes efficaciously.

· Closely tracks progress of caseload, continuously re-prioritizes activities, and intervenes at key points to assist patient towards goals.

· Maintains and abides by ethical standards set forth by the facility and state licensure.

· Has working understanding of diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health disorders.

· Has a comprehensive understanding of service priorities, costs and quality parameters consistent with the goals of the patient and the behavioral health home.

· Educates patient and family about utilizing appropriate referrals and resources including the behavioral health home and primary care services.

· Completes assigned utilization evaluation tools

· Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk or injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated. When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.

· - High School Diploma or equivalent required.

· Job related experience in mental healthcare is preferred with knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency terminology.

· Cognitive requirements including the ability to analyze a situation and make a sound decision on the best way to arrive at a solution.

· The ability to work with both clinical and non-clinical personnel in potentially high stress situations is required.

· Completes Healthstream Mandatory Education on a yearly basis.

· Attends all mandatory safety related education programs (fire ergonomics, universal/standard precautions etc.).

· Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others.

· Carries assigned keys and wears hospital badge at all times.

· Refrain from the abuse of chemicals.

· Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

· Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.

· Maintains regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, Federal and State Laws and Regulations Complies with all organizational policies regardingNorthern Light Health'sCode of conduct and ethical business practices.

Physical Requirements:

Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to respond to patient response and requests. Has the ability to read and speak English, to communicate and document information. Possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility to respond to aggressive patient behavior. Has the ability to reach and stretch intermittently. Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcare team members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday. Possess the ability to sit for long periods of time in meetings and in vehicles.
