||The Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, as the largest member of our Northern Light Health System, provides a full array of ultrasound services. Our General Ultrasound Department supports both inpatient and outpatient populations. We assist in invasive procedures daily within our main department, Breast and Osteoporosis Center and also provide imaging support in the main operating room as needed. Our department has been established as an American College of Radiology (ACR) - Center of Excellence. This is an interesting and rewarding position as the general sonographers are responsible for performing quality diagnostic and interventional studies /procedures using advanced technology. Our patients range from neonatal to geriatric and our exams are inclusive of: neurology, urology, women's health, gastroenterology and some limited orthopedic. We have demonstrated the growth in ultrasound diagnostics and therapeutics utilization synonymous with national trends.Qualified Sonographer/Ultrasound candidates must be ARDMS registered in Abdomen, or registry eligible within one year.Additional registries such as OB/GYN should be achieved within 1 year of eligibility. Required skills include, but are not limited to: knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology; knowledge of ultrasound and imaging physics. Strong communication and critical thinking skills are a must as well as the ability to work effectively with both technical and medical staff. Schedule flexibility, call and weekend coverage are shared by the team. Education is a key component to maintaining the highest standard of care for our patients. Our minimum education requirements include: High School graduate or equivalent. 2 year allied health education program that is patient care related or Bachelor's degree.Our leadership values its employees. Sonography can be a physically demanding career. To protect our staff we acknowledge and utilize ergonomic principles as guided by SDMS. Our baseline physical requirements include: Must possess the degree of total body strength and flexibility necessary to move equipment and assist with patient positioning and transport, the ability to assist patients with limited mobility or those requiring total care, ability to reach items on the floor, reach objects overhead to a height of 5 feet above ground level and reach across a stretcher to a distance of 25 inches, ability to lift a minimum of 45 lbs. to a height of 3 feet above ground level, ability to push non-motorized equipment weighing up to 465 lbs. throughout the hospital as necessary, ability to stand 85% of the time and average 3 miles of walking per 8-hour shift, must possess the degree of manual dexterity required to manipulate large and small objects, use a computer keyboard and to operate equipment, visual acuity and color vision is required to observe the patient and discern information from electronic monitors, patient charts, ID bands and other printed documents.Working Environment: Indoor work 100% of the time in low-light conditions.Must work with video display terminals for up to 85% of a shift Exposure to noise at varying levels, varying temperatures, and strong odors at times. Exposure to potentially hazardous materials, blood and high risk body fluids and patients with communicable diseases .
