||POSITION SUMMARY:The Medical Assistant provides day-to-day clinical support for the WorkHealth clinics. The Medical Assistant performs administrative and patient care duties to assist the medical staff in the examination and treatment of patients and will provide some clinical occupational health services independently, such as urine drug collection, breath alcohol testing, spirometry screening, hearing screening, and immunizations, commensurate with training and competencies. The Medical Assistant will provide clerical support when needed, assisting with patient scheduling, registration, and referrals. This position is responsible for managing patient records and will serve as a liaison between the patient, client, and practitioners. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES1. Assists in the examination and treatment of a patient, under the direction of a licensed provider.2. Conducts employee and occupational health services that include, but are not limited to: pre-placement exams, vaccination reviews, urine drug collection, breath alcohol testing, spirometry, hearing screening, vision screening, phlebotomy and fit testing.3. Administers immunizations/injections.4. Assists provider, as directed, in splinting, wound care and other minor office procedures.5. Obtains and maintains required certifications and competencies to perform occupational health services.6. Maintains patient health records, ensuring proper documentation for quality patient care, safety, and data tracking.7. Notifies patient of applicable results, communicating recommendations of diagnostic tests, as instructed by the practitioner.8. Stocks/orders medical supplies as needed.9. Assists with front desk responsibilities, as needed.10. Performs calibration of all occupational health medical devices as per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's guidelines.11. Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to legal requirements pertinent to occupational and employee health and safety.12. Knowledge of OSHA and Worker's Compensation rules and demonstrates compliance with. 13. Maintains patient confidentiality with patients and fellow employees.14. Seeks assistance, guidance and direction when unsure of procedures and protocols in performance of duties.15. Demonstrates safe behavior in all aspects of the job.16. Performs all other duties as assigned.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and AAMA or AMT certification required OR successful completion of training and competency for Medical Assistant functions is required.A minimum of 2 years clinical experience preferred. Clinical experience in an occupational health setting and applicable certifications strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with patients, providers, clients, and employees are essential to successfully fulfill this role.PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENTExposure to blood and/or body fluids is possible. Unpleasant smells may be encountered in working with patient specimens. PHYSICAL CRITERIA/EFFORTWork involves standing and or walking about 90% of the time. Constant hand motion involved with writing, typing, and answering the telephone. Some duties require standing, wide freedom of movement, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing or pulling (<30lbs). Responsibilities require frequent periods of concentration and close attention to detail.SAFETY1.
