Job Summary:

The medical assistant is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse with patient examination and treatment of patients of all ages. The incumbent will carry out direct patient care activities according to the plan of the physician or physician assistant. In addition, the incumbent performs all duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization.The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Requirements:

Graduate of approved medical assisting program. Experience in a physician's office or ambulatory setting preferred. Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer certification (or attained within 30 days of hire) is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. The incumbent must be computer literate. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and ability to understand specific instructions. The incumbent must have ability to make decisions regarding priority of work.
