Job Details Our Presque Isle location has a great position for a physician wanting to make a positive difference in someone's life! You would be responsible for providing comprehensive oversight of care for hospice patients admitted to the Hospice House, with a focus on improving the quality of life through the alleviation of pain and suffering. Additionally you would be a member of the interdisciplinary team for providing guidance in policy setting for hospicecare provided through VNA's Hospice Program, for consultation to maintain the standards of hospice,for the medical oversight of patient care and providing guidance to VNA regarding compliance with state and federal rules and regulation and with accrediting bodies. Occasionally you may be called upon as a consultant or function as the attending physician of record for the purpose of hospice care which includes being available on call to meet the medical needs of the client if the attending physician is unavailable.
Experience caring for individuals with life limiting illness
One year of experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
Proven clinical experience and competence in both hospice care and palliative medicine
Committment to a team approach, including teaching of allied and mid-level practitioners
Superior interpersonal, organization and communication skills
Broad and in-depth technical knowledge and skills related to the practice of palliative and end of life care
Ability to speak clearly and comfortably to and use tact, discretion and sensitivity in dealing with patients and families, including excellent interviewing and counseling skills
Ability to explain medical problems and treatments in accurate and understandable lay language
Current ME license to practice as an MD or DO
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers
Current DEA certificate to prescribe schedule II narcotics, which is free from restrictions for same
Evidence of effective communication skills, using verbal, written and telephonic means
Ability to travel in assigned service area.
