Job Details Job Summary:

The Obstetrical Surgical Technologist (OBST) performs selected activities related to the care of the patient undergoing an OB/GYN surgical procedure, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The incumbent is responsible for participating in instrument counts, cleaning instruments, restocking pans in the Birthplace C-section Operating Room after surgical cases and the cleaning and stocking of Labor and Delivery carts and rooms. The OBST performs selected patient care activities as assigned by and under the supervision of the RN. The OBST also performs patient record maintenance, transcribes and enters orders into the computer, facilitates the patient admission process, and performs secretarial and reception duties as assigned. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Northern Light Mercy Hospital.

Requirements:

This position is for 2 twelve hours day shifts accompanied by 12 hour night call to follow.

National certification required within 6 months. Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer certification is required. Graduate of Surgical Technology School required. Knowledge of aseptic techniques and operating room standards and procedures required. Incumbent must have the ability to concentrate on detail and adjust quickly to changes. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and the ability to understand specific instruction. Judgment and initiative to work independently and prioritize work. Must have computer literacy with keyboarding skills.
