Position Summary:
The EMHS Information Systems (IS) Intern Program is an opportunity for students to gain IT theory and practical experience while working with, and under the direct supervision of EMHS professionals, according to the terms and agreements set forth in the EMHS/school contract. The IS Intern may provide direct technical assistance and support for network, hardware and software issues and may also participate in application build, testing and validation.

Education Requirement(s): Must be in pursuit of a degree in computer science or information technology and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Experience Requirement(s): Previous experience in area of interest preferred, in addition to education requirements. Students must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications and should have a strong interest in computer-based information systems and technology and have an awareness of PC desktop operating system software.

Skills Required:

Ability to interact effectively with IS staff, end-users, providers, peers, management and vendors in a manner that represents EMHS positively. Effective communication skills and attention to detail, with effective follow-through and commitment to excellence. Must be motivated and able to take directions well.

Ability to understand and interpret technical concepts. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information; develops alternatives and solutions; works well in a group in problem solving situations; uses reason even when dealing with difficult or emotional topics.

Students should have a strong interest in computer-based information systems and technology and have an awareness of PC desktop operating system software.

Ability to cope with rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents as well as the ability to write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs.

Ability to assist IS staff with various aspects of a particular assigned position, such as process flow development, electronic order maintenance, etc.

Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment; a willingness to learn new skills and take directions from team members; the ability to organize information and manage time effectively.

Working Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a normal office environment. Busy office environment, seated at a desk or in meetings for extended periods of time. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
Must be able to travel throughout the EMHS hospital system with occasional variable hours.
