Job Summary:

The Integrated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an independently licensed and credentialed provider who provides and directs the delivery of psychiatric services. The PMH-NP applies research-based knowledge, skills, and experience to the care of primary care patients evidencing functional impairment related to psychiatric issues, substance use and/or insomnia and considers how these issues effect and are affected by co-occurring medical problems. The PMH-NP employs modalities to include psychotherapy, responsible medication management, and other interventions. The PMH-NP collaborates with other healthcare providers to participate in the care of patients, affect change in systems, and enhance the ability of others to provide comprehensive healthcare. The PMH-NP functions as a clinical leader and participates in program development and improving quality of care. All other responsibilities as directed by program manager or clinical supervisor.


Professional Requirements:

Each provider shall be a PMH NP with at least two years of experience working with patients with behavioral health disorders. Experience working in a primary care or other, similar medical setting is preferred. The PMH NP shall be licensed by the State Board of Nursing and credentialed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and shall maintain all of these qualifications during the course of this agreement.

Regulatory Requirements

Ability to: work well in a team, to work closely with all clinical staff, and work evenings. Knowledge of developmental stages across the lifespan. Strong commitment to the clinic, providers, staff and patients. Completes mandatory education on a yearly basis. Attends all mandatory safety related education programs (fire ergonomics, universal/standard precautions etc.). Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others. Carries assigned keys and wears hospital badge at all times. Refrains from substance abuse.

Language Skills:

Must possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language.

Flexible and able to function well in novel situations; takes a collaborative, holistic approach to patient care; able to communicate using practical language and avoiding jargon, able to provide brief, focused interventions to a large number of patients; develops treatment plans that are brief, specific and action oriented; evidences critical thinking and time-sensitive decision-making; able to work autonomously; experienced in crisis management; comfortable with independent time management and prioritization; promotes patient health and wellness; provides education; possesses strong computer skills (Word, Excel, database, Outlook, APS) and willingness to learn new electronic medical record documentation. Able and willing to assess and treat all patients and family members within licensure.

Physical Demands/Environment:

Has the ability to read and speak English, to communicate and document information. Possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility to respond to aggressive patient behavior. Has the ability to reach and stretch intermittently. Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcare team members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday. Possess the ability to sit for long periods of time in meetings.
