The residency is fully paid and benefits eligible and is considered a full-time nursing position. At the end of the residency, you do not have to apply for another position, you are able to continue working in the position for which you were hired or apply to another department or member organization if you wish.

Northern Light Health: Maine Nursing Students

RN: Work-to-Grow Program

Northern Light Health Work-to-Grow Program assists students enrolled in an AND or BSN program. While being paid full-time, candidates have their tuition and exam fees paid for on their behalf for up to two years, including their NCLEX. After completion of the program and successful NCLEX examination, the employee has a work commitment with Northern Light Health.

*Currently offered at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital, Northern Light Inland Hospital, Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, Northern Light Mayo Hospital, and Northern Light Home Care & Hospice

Pre NCLEX vs. Post NCLEX

At Northern Light Health, many new graduate nurses have the choice to start Pre-NCLEX or Post-NCLEX.

Pre-NCLEX Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (currently in last semester Nursing program or recently graduated from Nursing school)
  • Provide Authorization to Test prior to start date
  • Must attempt NCLEX within 60 days of hire
  • Hold or be eligible to hold CNA, CST, Pharm Tech, or another licensure in case unable to pass NCLEX first attempt

Post-NCLEX Requirements:

  • Maine RN License or eligible to obtain
  • No RN experience, or less than one year of RN experience.
