Pricing Transparency

For 2019, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires hospitals to publish a list of standard charges online to promote price transparency for consumers. Northern Light Health fully supports giving patients the resources and education needed to understand the cost of healthcare and patient responsibilities and these resources are a good starting place for understanding the cost of care. We encourage you to reach out to your insurance provider or our Patient Financial Services department to get more information and the most accurate estimate possible.

How to read the standard charges file.

To create a common language to accurately describe medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, and allow reliable nationwide communication between physicians, patients, and third parties healthcare organizations use specific codes and terms: current procedural terminology (CPT) and the Healthcare Common Procedure Code System (HCPCS). These are lists of descriptive terms and identifying codes for reporting medical services and procedures that were developed by the American Medical Association (AMA).

These codes have been included in the standard charges files as a reference for consumers using the file.  These codes can be used to communicate with NLH financial counselors to create an estimate for the cost of a procedure.

Please remember, not all items and services have a corresponding CPT/HCPCS code, and any one medical service can include multiple CPT and HCPCS codes with price differences. For the most accurate estimate of expected costs for a specific service, please contact a financial counselor by emailing or by calling a financial counselor.
