R. Guy Hudson, MD, serves as the president and CEO of Northern Light Health, where he is dedicated to advancing the system’s mission of delivering high quality, compassionate care across Maine. Dr. Hudson leads with a focus on empowering Northern Light’s thousands of caregivers to excel in their roles, simplifying processes to enhance efficiency, and creating an environment where teams can focus on what matters most — patients.

Guided by the resilience and determination that define Maine communities, Dr. Hudson is committed to fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and trust. He envisions Northern Light Health as a reflection of those values — strong, adaptable, and ready to meet the evolving needs of the people it serves. 

Dr. Hudson brings more than two decades of clinical and executive leadership experience. Prior to joining Northern Light Health, he served as president and chief executive officer of Swedish Health System for six years and as chief executive of Providence’s North Division for two years, encompassing Puget Sound and Alaska. In those roles, he led organizations that, like Northern Light Health, spanned secular and Catholic ministries, served rural communities, and included critical access hospitals. 

After concluding his Swedish and Providence leadership roles, Dr. Hudson returned to clinical practice in 2023 as a pediatric urologic surgeon in Boise, Idaho, before assuming the presidency of Northern Light Health. In addition to his leadership in the United States, he has participated in international medical missions, providing care in countries including Guatemala and Uganda.
