PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)

We use filmless technology called PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System). PACS uses a computer network designed for the acquisition, transmission, display, storage, and retrieval of digital medical images.

The benefits of PACS:

  • Quick access for providers to view images and reports, which facilitates timely and efficient clinical care decisions

  • Images can be transmitted to various PACS systems over a secure network established between facilities eliminating the need for patients to retrieve images prior to an appointment.

  • Images can be enhanced for clarity after the exam, reducing the need to return for additional imaging tests

  • Doctors have immediate access to images - which is essential in trauma or life-threatening illness situations

  • Images can be electronically transmitted to other healthcare organizations or copied onto a compact disc. To request images, please contact Imaging at 207.487.4030.
