The PALS Update Course, taught according to the 2015 guidelines, is designed for healthcare providers who initiate pediatric advanced life support beyond the first few minutes through the stabilization or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, and are required to renew their PALS certification for their job requirement. PALS Providers may include Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, PA’s, Paramedics, EMTs, and Respiratory Therapists.

This classroom, video-based, instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of this course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

A written exam, along with a performance evaluation/megacode, is part of this program and both must be passed in order to successfully complete the course. The mega code tests the strength of the participant in the Team Leader role. Training cards are issued once the participant completes all of the course requirements. If you are an EMMC employee, please contact your unit educator to sign out a PALS Study Manual.
