Orientation

Our nursing orientation program is designed to provide nurses with the information and education they need to get off to a great start. All nurses who are new to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center complete a seven-day hospital orientation in addition to unit-specific orientation.

The first seven days include:

  • Day 1: Human resources/general orientation
  • Day 2: Clinical orientation
  • Day 3: Computer orientation
  • Days 4-7: Hands-on skill sessions, policies, and competencies

Unit-specific orientations are tailored to the needs of every nurse. Nurses are matched up with a preceptor upon start, with the length of orientation determined by the nurse’s clinical experience and skills. Nurses will talk with unit leadership frequently and meet with a clinical educator routinely throughout the process.
